In 1896 thirty one Escanaba reidents joined together at the Sons of Herman Hall to form the Escanaba Elks Lodge #354. Escanaba thus became the 354th lodge in the 29 year old Benevolant and Protective Order of Elks. In 1896, as is true in our times, there were men whose vision and insight into human nature included a realization that a man's life is empty without fellowship, charity, and devotion to a cause.
